Hyves and Politics

The slogan that Hyves use is: ‘always in touch with your friends’.This indicates that Hyves is a social network that keeps you in touch with your friends. You can search among all Hyves users and look if your childhood friend also has a Hyves page. You can send him or her a messages and exchange photographs. You can stay in touch with him or her more easily. But Hyves is not only used for this purpose. Nowadays Hyves is used by companies, artists, celebrities and news programmes. Now a new group of Hyves users is added to this list. Namely, politicians. They post themselves and there ideas. They also create some sort of ‘fan base’ for there own party. What is your opinion about the users of Hyves? Should it be used only to stay in touch with ‘friends’ or do you feel it is possible that Hyves is used for other purposes?

RTL Breakfast News and RTL Boulevard

Recently a Dutch news channel started a Hyves page.
Every day they post a new poll. Everybody who is a member of the RTL Hyves can post a reaction. They have there own blog and you can take a look behind the scenes. They also post the today’s show.
There is another Dutch TV channel that has also stated a Hyves page. It is a kind of lifestyle programme and it is called ‘RTL Boulevard’. They post the latest gossip and news that will be discussed in tonight’s show.
Do you think it’s useful for TV channels to work with social media? Do you think more people will watch the show if they use social media?

Hyves and Company image January 8, 2010

Hyves and company image

In my blog you reed a lot about image and how social media can help with that, or even help you to get famous. But what about companies? How can they benefit from Hyves? I believe that a lot of companies still underestimate the power of social media. The biggest benefit they have is that they are in immediate contact with there target group. They can start a dialogue about there product and if it can be improved. Hyves can also be used to improve your image. Because the customer is in direct contact with the company, the company can say a lot easier what they are about and where they believe in. People can ask direct questions to the company. This helps with knowing a lot faster what the customer wants, and what they want to see changed in the company. It is also a lot cheaper to use Hyves, because it’s free.

Hyves and Celebrities January 8, 2010

Hyves and Celebrities

Hyves is not only used by us ‘normal people’, but also by celebrities. They talk about what they are doing and if they ended there recent relationship. I think it’s ridiculous that people and especially celebrities feel the need to put personal information on the internet. I believe they are doing it for attention or because their manager thinks it wise to inform the public about there state of mind. So they can understand why the show was canceled. What do you think? Is it just for attention or is a well thought-out marketing tool.

Hyves and Entertainment January 6, 2010

Entertainment!

I have been writing about ‘Hyves and music’ and ‘Hyves and events’. The only subject that was missing was ‘Hyves and entertainment’. First of all, what do I mean with ‘entertainment’? well, I mean television for example or theatre. The entertainment business is the business that dared to use social media before the event and music business. They knew from the beginning that they could control (too a curtain level) what people are saying about there business. Maybe were one of the first to use it regularly, because in a lot of reality soaps you can vote for your favourite contestant. So they were already using the viewers opinion.

Hyves and Events January 6, 2010

Hyves and Events

Hyves is used not only for private reasons. Companies are discovering the benefits of Hyves and other social media. All the big events and festivals in Holland have Hyves pages nowadays. People can post there experiences and photographs. They can tell each other about there good and bad moment. This can be good but if people post more negative comments than positive ones it could ruin the reputation of the event of festival. This is good for the visitors, because the event planners are working harder to make the event a success. After all, they only want positive comments on there event or festival.

Hyves and the Music industry January 6, 2010

What about the music business?

In this blog I will be talking about Social Media and the music business.

Until now the music business has been careful with using social media as a promoting tool, because they believe that they have no control over what people will say about the artist they are promoting. But that is not the case. If they lead the conversation they decide what people are talking about. It also creates sympathy for the artists if he or she is posting the messages. The fans feel like they are in real contact with there idol. I also posted a clip with this message. So check it out.

Hyves and Advertising December 9, 2009

Hyves and Adertising.

Sooner or later social-media will become more important for the marketing World. Companies have to know enough about it before using it. But nevertheless it will be very difficult to handle as a advertiser. Mouth-to-mouth advertising will determine more and more the true value of products and services.

An independent study showed us that the effect of mouth-to-mouth advertising has become three to five times more effective as the effect of the best efforts of the best advertiser is most companies.

Hyves and Privacy November 27, 2009

Hyves is used by a lot of different people. Everybody who can use a computer can use Hyves. But what about privacy? If you want everybody can see your photos, comments and friends. Do you want that to happen? There is an application on Hyves were you can decide if you want everybody to see your page or just your friends. But how many people do this. The Dutch government has set up a campaign about how to use a profile site like Hyves safely. There has even been sent a message to all Hyves users where some Russian mafia knows all about you and your friend and they are coming to get you. This is a real wake-up call to use to information about you on Hyves right. What do think about this? Do you think what you post on a profile site is your own responsibility or do you think it’s right for the government to take action on this subject?

More information about privacy and the Russian mafia click the clip above.

Hyves comes from the word beehive and is a free Dutch profile site. You can compare it with the American profile site MySpace. Hyves was founded by Raymon Spanjar, Koen Kam and Floris Rost van Tonningen.
In October 2008 Hyves had more than 7, 4 million accounts and is still growing.

I’m going to write about Hyves and what use it as to a lot of different people, companies, politicians and artists.
